Professional Development Days

Each semester Rutgers German hosts a Professional Development Day for teachers of German in New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, and the greater New York area. The program for each session aims to enhance the teaching and learning of German language, literature, and culture at the junior high and high school levels, and to increase general interest in the study of German. Teachers participate in interactive state-of-the-art pedagogical training, and network with others in the profession at these informative, fun-filled sessions. Declamation Contest

Each spring the German Honor Society, Delta Phi Alpha, sponsors a Declamation Contest for area junior high and high school students of German. This blockbuster event brings to campus creative renditions of Schiller poems and Snow White, lieder by Schubert and Rammstein, and other famous German stories, poems, and songs, presented with exceptional talent and enthusiasm by local students! Excellence Initiative

Help us to establish a Center of Excellence in German Studies at Rutgers! The Center’s principal mission is to provide academic leadership in the research and teaching of Germanic languages and literatures. By supporting innovative new teaching and research, strengthening connections with other leading German programs, and developing new research initiatives with corporations and foundations interested in the pursuit of German language and culture studies, the Center of Excellence in German Studies at Rutgers will serve as a model for invigorating language programs both nationally and internationally.
