Eva Scheicher joined the department in Fall 2024 as an SAS Excellence Fellow.
Eva graduated with a M.Ed (Masters of Education) from the University of Vienna in 2023 and worked as a secondary school teacher since 2021.
Her two bachelor’s theses examined a new model of heroism in the Middle High German poem Das Eckenlied through Lotman’s concept of boundary-crossing, and explored feminist exegesis on how the figure of Jezebel became an oppressive stereotype, particularly against Black women.
For her master’s thesis, she focused on bioethics, conducting an interreligious comparison of the definitions of the beginning of life to help medical personnel navigate ethical discussions and respect patients’ beliefs.
Currently, her research interest is the representation of authoritarian structures in schools in German-language literature of the first half of the 20th century.
Outside of academia, Eva is a passionate dancer, reader (especially of novels about women in crisis), and pedestrian. At the moment, she is trying to revive the tradition of the flâneur across the bridge over the Raritan River.
