Artun Ak joined the department in Fall 2021 as an Excellence and Presidential Fellow.

Artun graduated from Bard College in Spring 2020 with a B.A. in Literature and Economics. His literature senior thesis investigated time and temporality in Uwe Johnson's Mutmassungen über Jakob (Speculations About Jakob) and Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar’s Saatleri Ayarlama Enstitüsü (The Time Regulation Institute). Currently, he works on the various realisms in German cinema and film theory (Kracauer, Kluge, Grisebach) and the role of visual abstraction in Weimar narrative cinema, as seen in e.g. Leontine Sagan’s Mädchen in Uniform and F.W. Murnau’s Nosferatu.
